Meet The Team

Johnny Lightnin Campos:

Lightnin’ John Campos is a second generation race car driver. John’s dad Gene Campos raced for many years on the asphalt in Roseburg Oregon, and even tested out the dirt track in Madras. John tagged along with Dad all those years, but in 1999 John got behind the wheel of his first dirt track car: a Camaro Sportsman. He went on to drive that car for 3 years, and in his second year he won 13 out of 16 races and was the season Champion!

In 2002 John was in a serious auto accident, and broke his back. He sat out the season, but was determined to come back with a new fire. In 2003 Campos was back on the track, this time he was driving a Larry Shaw Late Model Outlaw. He was ready to run with the best of the best. In his first year in this class, he was winning trophy dashes, and starting to make his mark. It was this year one of the big racers from California gave John his name: “Lightnin’”.

The past 19 years have been great years for the J Lightnin’ race team, and Lightnin wanted to make a difference and be more than just another Driver. The car has been dedicated to serving our community, and raising awareness by having the logo’s of The United Way and the organizations they serve, on the back deck of the race car. In 2017 John joined the Break The Chain Racing Team and was instrumental in bringing awareness at dirt tracks in the NW to issues such as domestic violence and addiction.

In 2017 John drove to his first track Championship at Willamette Speedway and also was the 2017 IMCA Modified Oregon State Champion. In 2018 John won the IMCA Wild West Modified Shootout

Bry Taylor-Campos

bry6th

Bry Taylor-Campos in her rookie year, Bry ended up in 6th place for year end points, and was one of the only female drivers in her class. Bry spent 4 years on the track, but is now content to cheer from the pits and raise the next generation of a dirt track champion. John and Bry met in 2006, and were married in Oct 2009.

Bry car is the #3:16, she picked her number not only because of the ’36 in it, but for the meaning – the bible verse John 3:16. Bry is a proud team member of Break the Chain Racing, where they are racing to break the chain of violence and addiction. (please see more at http://breakthechainapparel.com/)

Bry is a successful business owner, with a history in sales and marketing. Owner of  Salon Wisp in South Salem, and a very successful Realtor (www.RealEstateBry.com).  Bry is extremely active in the Salem and Keizer Chambers of Commerce, an Ambassador for the Salem Chamber of Commerce, past Chair of “Greeters” the largest networking meeting in The Valley, and a past board member for Salem Business Builders.
