Meet the Team
A Husband and Wife dirt track race team. Based in Keizer Oregon, our home track is Willamette Speedway in Lebanon Oregon.
Lightnin John Campos:
Lightnin’ John Campos is a second generation race car driver. John’s dad Gene Campos raced for many years on the asphalt in Roseburg Oregon, and even tested out the dirt track in Madras. John tagged along with Dad all those years, but thought racing quads would be more fun. But in 1999 John got behind the wheel of his first dirt track car: a Camaro Sportsman. He went on to drive that car for 3 years, and in his second year he won 13 out of 16 races! By his third year the trophies were taller than him!
In 2002 John was in a serious auto accident, and broke his back. He sat out the season, but was determined to come back with a new fire. In 2003 Campos was back on the track, this time he was driving a Larry Shaw Late Model Outlaw. He was ready to run with the best of the best. In his first year in this class, he was winning trophy dashes, and starting to make his mark. It was this year one of the big racers from California gave John his name: “ Lightnin’”.
Fast forward 3 years to 2006. Lightnin was still racing Late Models, and at the last race of the year in Medford Oregon. He had qualified second fast, and was to start the main event race on the front row. That weekend, as fate would have it, he met his future wife: Bry Taylor. 40 laps into his 100 lap main event, a car in front of him hit the wall, and shot in front of him. Trying to get out of the way he threw his car sideways, but still collided with another car and landed on top of another car. Everyone was just fine but the cars were tore up. At least he made it out of that weekend with a new friend, soon to be girlfriend.
Bry Taylor-Campos
Bry grew up showing horses, and then went on to rodeo, and held many rodeo queen titles. She was always a go-getter and a gal who could work on her own truck. He love for cars and trucks led her to finding a 1969 Mustang in the berry bushes and making it her own. Being a hairstylist, the name of her business came easy to her – Hot Rod Hair. In 2009 and 2010 Hot Rod Hair was voted Best of the Mid-Valley, and also won New business of the year.
Her love of fast cars took her to Willamette Speedway in Lebanon Oregon, where she would cheer on friends who drove there. This led her to the last race of the year in 2006, where she met her future husband. The first words he ever said to here were “They call me Lightnin”, and the rest is history.
2010 was Bry’s rookie year on the track. Overcoming a huge learning curve, a few bumps and one bad crash, Bry ended up 6th in Year End Points.
